Looking back at the diagnosis of your child with Autism, it may feel like a whirlwind; it does for me. Maybe you took meticulous notes. Possibly it was suggested to you even though you had suspicions. Likely, you had a very good idea of what was happening and started making the moves towards getting your child whatever therapies he could benefit from. We know of ABA therapy, likely you’ve heard of SPD and / or live with it every day with your child…but how many of us have thought about staying a step ahead?
Anne Moore Burnett, author of “Step Ahead of Autism: what you can do to ensure the best possible outcome for your child” has….and she’s passing along what she’s learned.
“Autism is not a puzzle but an opportunity to step up to the challenge and be the best parent you can be.”
– Anne Moore Burnett
Unlike many Autism books, Anne Moore Burnett’s suggestions are concise, easy to manage, and are presented with her real life experiences. She narrows the enormous field of possible things we each could do for our children into a “10 Step System”. A system that can be done during your ‘every day’ life with close attention to what is going on around you and with your child with Autism.
The format of the 142 page book is predictable in the “real life” example -> to exercises for the reader -> supplemented with tips -> and rounded out with work space for later reference. The manner in which she has organized this book makes it easy to ready, easy to use and, inspires and empowers the reader (parent / caregiver) to actively move a “Step Ahead of Autism”.
Admittedly, I found the exercises useful and insightful as every reader will. However, I was equally intrigued by Anne Moore Burnett’s story. She did not stuff the book full of a life that we all share in one form or another. Rather, Ann Moore Burnett was able to provide soft, accurate, concise yet informative reflections written in such a manner that I literally was having to stop myself from jumping ahead to continue on her journey with her.
“Step Ahead of Autism: what you can do to ensure the best possible outcome for your child” will be a good edition to your continually growing Autism Reference Home Library, empowering you to review the steps you and your child’s support system are making, make any necessary adjustments, and ensure the best possible outcome for your child.
