The happiness I have in my heart can hardly be given life with mere words. My oldest son, the one who has set us out on a journey that has tested our strength and fortified us individuals and as a family, turned 10 day.
Ten. Double digits. The Golden Birthday followed by Golden Years.
Admittedly, I’m panicking a bit inside… I have a 10 year old son. Me. ME! 10… T. E. N. It doesn’t quite compute. Likely because a large part of our journey (to be read as, the entirety of our journey) has been held captive by constant turmoil, a seemingly plateau of development, and challenges no person could ever foresee… and happiness beyond measure.
I have never been prouder to be a parent. He has guided us, cheered us, relied on us, enlightened us and shown us hope in a darkened sky by way of illuminating the rainbows that surround us. I can not imagine seeing the world with different eyes than I do today, and am thankful that he has shown it to me, as the world I have left behind was… shallow – not in the sense that “shallow” is used today, but more that it truly lacked depth. Now, there’s depth with reaches further than I can see, yet I know are there.
What I’m saying is:
Thank you J for choosing me to be your mother. Thank you for teaching me, enlightening me, forcing me to grow and allowing me to share your strength through my words. Your smile warms my heart, your laughter fills my soul. You find joy in the beauty that surrounds you, and find beauty where others see none. You have shown me what a miracle truly looks like, you.
