No subject will divide a group of parents like the hot topic of vaccines. Many people are surprised to find out there is actually a vaccine injury compensation fund, after all, vaccines are safe, government tested, nobody is harmed from a vaccine preventing an illness. Only having the real disease will harm your child that is why we vaccinate. The sad reality is vaccines aren’t that safe, they aren’t tested as well as we are lead to believe and everyday vaccine injuries happen. This is the point of having a Vaccine Damage Awareness Month; to help educated the general public about vaccine damage, how to prevent it and how to report it when it does happen.
Your first step is prevention. Naturally the easiest means for preventing a vaccine is simply choose not to vaccinate. Due to high pressure sales tactics from pediatricians, nurses and even family and friends, making a public choice not to vaccinate can cause a new set of issues. More and more pediatricians are refusing to see families of the unvaccinated. Two states in America have no religious or philosophical exemptions, only medical, and residents in Mississippi and West Virginia will tell you getting that medical exemption is virtually impossible, even when a child has medical issues or reacted to a vaccine in the past. Without a legal exemption residents of these two states cannot send their child to school, day care, or in some cases even state run summer camp programs or other fun activities. The remaining 48 states have either religious, philosophical, as well as medical reasons for obtaining an exemption from vaccines. Though the long list of requirements or required paper work may be daunting, for parents choosing not to vaccinate, it is worth it.
A second choice is to space out vaccines, picking and choosing which vaccines are given and at what age. This best advice is waiting until the child is at least two years old. Parents who do this are also keenly aware of the golden rules for safer vaccine administration. Rules are, never vaccinate a sick child or one just recovering from an illness even a cold. Seems simple doesn’t it, but talk to parents of a vaccine damaged child and you will hear a familiar story over and over. Parent take in a child who is sick, and shots are due or nearly do, so let’s just vaccine while you are in today. This is never a good idea.
Others who need to rethink the timing of a vaccine are parents to a premature baby. A preemie is just that, a premature baby born before they should have been. Preemies should not be placed on a mandatory vaccine schedule biased on the actually day they are born; rather shots need to be delayed. It is shocking how many preemies receive the Hepatitis B soon after birth. Many parents do not even know this vaccine has been given. Again being aware of your vaccine choice before your child is born will help parents be aware of making a public statement that the Hepatitis B vaccine is not to be administered to their child, preemie or full term.
Other golden rules of vaccine safety include protecting your child’s natural immune system. Nursing a child as long as possible while vaccinating is wise. Never ever give your child Tylenol. As reported by biomedical consultant Marcella Piper-Terry,
“Vaccines contain free glutamic acid, which destroys glutathione. Couple that with pediatrician’s advice to “take Tylenol” (which also destroys glutathione) and you have a child whose system is not able to detoxify.This inability for the body to rid it’s self of harmful toxins opens the flood gates for damage. A simple switch of pain reliever could mean the difference between damage or not.”
Another rule is to incorporate the use of homeopath as much as possible. The late Dr. Tinus Smits worked with vaccine damaged children for over 30 years. His suggestion for preventing vaccine damage suggests giving a homeopathic potency of the vaccine before and immediately after the child gets their shots. Though not always 100% effective, it has been shown to help prevent damage and lessen even the normal expected side effects of vaccines.
Search the vaccine records for hot lots, or lots of vaccine numbers that have reported death or damage. Write down the hot lot numbers and make sure your child’s vaccines are not from these batches. Others suggest building up a child’s immune system with vitamins extra C and A in the weeks and days before the scheduled vaccine. It is much easier to take few precautions for safe vaccination than to undo or live with the long term effects of vaccine damage. In this case an ounce of prevention is very much worth the time and investment.
If you do choose to vaccinate, always write down the vaccine lot number, name of the vaccine manufacture, where the shot was given, by whom, the date and time the vaccine was given. Keep this with your personal records in a safe place. Record any adverse reactions and keep with this information.
What are signs of a vaccine reaction? More and more often parents are being taught that a vaccine reaction is normal. Reactions are required by law to be reported, but when the doctor denies what you see or they witness is a reaction, not only will it not be reported if you child suffers long term damage, you will have no record of the report which will mean you more than likely be turned down for vaccine compensation. Know the following and report it to your health care worker if you see these reactions. Record, photo and store any documentation that you can to back up your report.
What to report:
- High pitched screaming, something you have never heard your baby do. This will last for hours, or days. Do not think this is normal, it is not.
- Arching of back, odd body posturing. May or may not be combined with high pitched scream.
- Seizures. They may be slight, so slight you think you are not really seeing anything. A slight jerk or odd blanking out stare can be a seizure.
- Hot red swollen vaccine area, rashes or swollen legs.
- Vomiting and or lethargic lifeless baby.
- Extreme sleepiness or long periods of unresponsiveness;
- High fever (over 103 F)
- Twitching or jerking of the body, arm, leg or head;
- Crossing of eyes;
- Weakness or paralysis of any part of the body;
- Loss of eye contact or awareness or social withdrawal;
- Loss of physical skills such as the ability to roll over, sit up or stand up;
- Vision or hearing loss;
- Restlessness, hyperactivity and loss of concentrate;
- Sleep disturbances resulting in a change of awake and sleep patterns.
- Head banging maybe combined with a sudden need to repeat a motion such as hand flapping or spinning;
- Joint pain or muscle weakness;
- Chronic fatigue unable to do anything without exhaustion;
- Loss of memory seems lost or confused.
Any issues that are new to your child, even several days or weeks after a vaccine. A delayed seizure a week later can be related to the vaccine. Rashes, gas, bloating, constipation or runny loose stools can be a sign of an issue. Currently parents are being told this is “toddler diarrhea” but many parents who have witness a regression in a child have reported a marked change in stools in conjunction with vaccines. More than likely no matter what you will be told there is no connection, however it is critical that you document your concerns with a medical center and that you ask for copies of medical records for yourself at this point. You may also contact http://www.nvic.org the National Vaccine Information Center for help on making a report or to know if your child’s reactions are indeed a bad reaction.
Vaccines are the back bone of our modern medical program. That does not mean they cannot or should not be questioned. Choosing to vaccinate is a deeply personal decision and should not be taken lightly. All parents should have the freedom to choose what medical procedures they subject their child to. Once a child is damaged the road to recovery is long, hard, expensive and often will never happen. It is just as tragic for a child to die from a vaccine, as for a child to die from a vaccine preventable disease, but sadly society does not see it that way. The child who is damage or dies from a vaccine is a “well so, didn’t happen to mine” child while a child who dies from a disease people believe could have been prevented from a vaccine is a national tragedy and the parents are painted to be criminal for allowing their child to become ill. I hope and pray that one day the real truths about vaccines will come to light, and facts about just how many of our children have been sacrificed will be acknowledged.
This month I’ll sport a black ribbon for vaccine damage awareness month, I hope when you see me, you understand that I do this in honor of my son, and the thousands of other children just like him who paid the ultimate price.
